In a tiny second-floor boutique, fashion-forward dandies will find Ildikó Gál’s indulgence-worthy leather lace-ups and loafers. The Hungarian men’s footwear store (it’s the first in the U.S.) carries classic styles from the ready-to-wear line, such as soft tasseled loafers ($295) and detailed oxfords ($595). There’s also the option to go all out and create a customized pair, a process that begins with a staffer scanning your foot and ends six weeks later when you receive a pair of kicks fashioned from an exotic skin (like ostrich). Prices for bespoke pairs start at about $3,000 and go up to $6,190 for rare alligator suede—pricey, but guaranteed to last a lifetime and fit like a second skin. Later this year the company plans to introduce a women’s collection.
