Rivington Tattoo
Native Californian Ethan Morgan opened this four-station space on the Lower East Side, bringing a little West Coast flavor to the New York tattoo scene. The veteran body artist infused the shop’s interior with his love of steampunk, resulting in dark wood floors, black leather waiting benches and station chairs, gray walls and a silver tin ceiling—a classy Victorian-style look that keeps in line with the neighborhood’s turn-of-the-20th-century architecture. Morgan has been tattooing for 21 years (working at East Side Ink for the last four) and specializes in black-and-gray Photorealism pieces. But with two other full-time inkers and a rotating roster of guest needle-wielding experts, Rivington Tattoo has all your body art needs ($200 per hour) covered.

I've been getting tattooed by Ethan pretty much since he arrived in NYC after researching artists online for months to find the right one to do my next work. I have not been tattooed by another artist since. His experience and talent show and people have run across parking lots to ask me about my work. (two sleeves and half my lower leg) He's since become a good friend because on top of being a great businessman and talented artist, he's a genuinely good guy who makes his clients feel super comfortable while under his needle. When he opened Rivington, it was the next logical step for him and he runs a top notch shop specializing in custom work with a staff of great artists (Mark, Sweety and Jim are great guys too). There is something for everyone as they each have their own specialties and styles, but they all can handle anything you throw at them. It's always super clean and the atmosphere is comfortable. GREAT art by notable artists hangs on the walls and I always have some good laughs when I'm in getting work. And they've had some amazing world class and well known guest artists. So if you're looking for a place to get a piece of permanent art to decorate your body...this is where you want to go.

Got all my big pieces done by Ethan, he is an amazing artist and really works with you to customize your tattoo to make it exactly how you want it, which not all people do. I highly recommend him or anyone at his shop!
