Not far from Union Square, this independent-owned bookstore is truly a bibliophile’s happy place. With more than 2.5 million books–used, new and rare–stacking up the Strand’s four floors, the selections are purely mind-blowing. From architecture to travel guides, browsing for the right book will be just as fun as buying it. Strand also has some cool totes, calendars and NYC souvenirs, along with audiobooks, CDs and DVDs.

The Strand is a book lover's paradise. In a time when online commerce is taking over, it's nice to see that a physical book store is thriving. Coming here at 7 PM on a Saturday night, it was a challenge to get around easily. The book store was so crowded, and justifiably so. With 18 miles of books (that's what the store sign says at least), anyone can find any book they imagine in this place. It's a block south of Union Square, so find a good book, head over to the park and enjoy a good read a nice NYC day!

The Strand is a landmark, with books for days, carefully curated selections, and a gigantic breadth of choice. Great for browsing - notorious carts littered outside with the cheapest offers around if you're willing to spend all day rifling through dusty tomes. Inside is well lit, intuitively organized (with new and bestsellers right near checkout) and a helpful staff always popping up, asking if you need help. Could spend days in here - really a great book buying experience.
