Whether you’re on a serious team or a social coed one that centers on postgame boozing and flirting, this soccer emporium is ready to outfit your crew. The second NYC shop (the other location is on the Upper West Side) boasts a mini indoor field for testing out the chain’s selection of unisex sneakers ($35–$240) and balls ($15–$150). Nike, Adidas, Umbro and Puma constitute the majority of the store’s men’s, women’s and kids’ footwear ($40–$250); those same powerhouse brands can also be found in the selection of athletic tees ($10–$25), shorts ($12–$40), pants ($35–$60), jackets ($35–$120) and jerseys ($35–$150). The large, airy space is spiffed up with a flatscreen TV perpetually tuned to soccer matches and a mural featuring the New York Cosmos, NYC’s pro soccer squad from 1971 to 1985. While Adidas neon, pro-caliber cleats ($250) pop in the sea of kicks, most of the store’s shoes and clothes are priced for the budget-conscious masses. Five O’Clock Shadow Apparel’s cool tees printed with phrases like team america ($25) and Sells goalkeeper pants ($35) pack enough padding to protect against any Prospect Park–game blunders.
