The second NYC shop (the other location is on the Upper West Side) boasts a mini indoor field for testing out the chain’s selection of unisex sneakers ($35–$240) and balls ($15–$150). Nike, Adidas, Umbro and Puma constitute the majority of the store’s men’s, women’s and kids’ footwear ($40–$250); those same powerhouse brands can also be found in the selection of athletic tees ($10–$25), shorts ($12–$40), pants ($35–$60), jackets ($35–$120) and jerseys ($35–$150). The large, airy space is spiffed up with a flatscreen TV perpetually tuned to soccer matches and a mural featuring the New York Cosmos, NYC’s pro soccer squad from 1971 to 1985. While Adidas neon, pro-caliber cleats ($250) pop in the sea of kicks, most of the store’s shoes and clothes are priced for the budget-conscious masses. Five O’Clock Shadow Apparel’s cool tees printed with phrases like team america ($25) and Sells goalkeeper pants ($35) pack enough padding to protect against any Prospect Park–game blunders.
