Whether or not you sport toe shoes, balletic movements are worth mimicking. Gyrotonic, or “yoga for dancers,” focuses on stretching and strengthening the muscles and elongating the spine through a series of sweeping circular motions using a Pilates-like machine. At the sun-soaked, pristine Gyrotonic Manhattan (which focuses exclusively on the practice), longtime trainer Kathy Van Patten guides clients through the motions ($85 per hour), which all create a more limber body and better posture.
