Looking to create something more satisfying than the gym experience, indoor-cycling veteran Ruth Zuckerman opened Soul Cycle, the city’s first studio dedicated solely to spinning. Students on one of the 34 bikes stare down an open-road mural while Zuckerman leads with a style that is part motivation, part guided meditation. The five ongoing classes aim to bring to stationary cycling the kind of spiritual “cardiotherapy,” as Zuckerman puts it, you might experience at a yoga or Pilates session.
