Some health clubs claim to be centers for self-improvement but, inside, smell more like resigned obedience. A different ethos prevails at Velocity Sports Performance Center. “Velocity is for anyone who was an athlete, is an athlete, or wants to train like an athlete,” business director Scott Plasky says. And while many who work out there are professionals—last year 24 clients were drafted into the NFL and two into the NBA—its Rolodex also includes lawyers, bankers and the occasional freelance writer. Monthly dues start at $350.
