Ars Nova
There aren’t many entertainment options along Tenth Avenue, but one is worth the trek: A jewel box of a theater with a heady, well-selected repertory of comedy, cabaret and music shows in an environment that’s focused more on the performance than on the cash register at the bar. The monthly variety show Showgasm is an excellent sampler pack of rising talents.

A beautiful performance space in Hell's Kitchen, showcasing everything from music, to dance, to experimental theatre, and everything in between. As the promo video that plays before every show will tell you, some of the best-known NYC artists have passed through Ars Nova, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alex Timbers, and Billy Eichner. Ars Nova is a huge and invaluable supporter of up-and-coming artists and you're sure to catch something or someone here that's on the cusp of breaking out - check them out!

This theater is a bit off the beaten track, which makes sense given the kind of artists it showcases. Hilarious comedian John Early has had a monthly residency here for a couple of years. His Showgasm hosts amazing comedians and artists, and his sidekick Hamm Samwich, a drag queen/DJ/musician, likes to get drunk and talk shit with him. Otherwise you'll see up-and-coming performers, pop-up art galleries, comedians from all sorts of genres and live music. For example: there's a comedian-juggler performing there soon. Didn't think that was a thing? It is, and you can see it here! But, seriously, go see Showgasm.
