Baby It's You!

The very poor book of this third-rate jukebox musical squanders its talented cast and popular (if lightweight) songs. Director and cowriter Floyd Mutrux mishandles the potential drama of the source material: the story of early-’60s girl-group impresario Florence Greenberg (plucky Beth Leavel), a New Jersey housewife who promoted the Shirelles, singers of dreamy pop hits such as “Dedicated to the One I Love.” This one is strictly for undiscriminating boomer nostalgists.—David Cote
