Insufficient energy is the consuming issue in writer-performer-designer Thaddeus Phillips’s underwhelming new comedy about an eccentric Serbian squatter in Japan—and not because the lighting system relies on pump-operated generators. Instead we must blame the material, a story desultorily hodgepodged out of interesting true stories and unmotivated renditions of Hamlet soliloquies. The performer has a talent for lo-fi physical theater, but his visual imagination cannot shock this text awake.—Helen Shaw
