Encores!: Mack & Mabel

City Center's invaluable concert-staging series Encores! continues its 27th season with a look back at this 1974 musical by Michael Stewart and the late Jerry Herman. The tale of a doomed romance between early Hollywood director Mack Sennett and star Mabel Normand, the show was a flop in its 1974 debut but has earned a cult following on the strength of its score. Douglas Sills and Alexandra Socha, who memorably played the title roles in the excerpts from Mack & Mabel that were featured in Encores!'s 2018 revue Hey, Look Me Over!, now get a chance to try the whole show on for size. They are joined by Lilli Cooper, Michael Berresse, Major Attaway, Jordan Gelber and Ben Fankhauser; Josh Rhodes directs and choreographs, with Rob Berman at the baton.
