Lemon Sky

Jonathan Silverstein directs Lanford Wilson’s gentle, deftly lyrical 1970 coming-of-age drama—in which a 1950s student (a sweet Keith Nobbs) ventures west to join his estranged father—with a flattening deference. Without something extra to carry it beyond family-with-a-secret fare, the piece seems as empty as the Mojave sky.—Helen Shaw
