Master Class

Terrence McNally depicts Maria Callas as an aging camp dragon with tattered scales in this demeaning 1995 divasploitation drama, which strips La Divina of both mastery and class. Lacking Callas’s elegance, the estimable Tyne Daly nonetheless controls the stage, lending shading to the script's bitchy one-liners, tedious theatrics and vulgar, melodramatic flashbacks.—Adam Feldman
