Once

For fans of the 2006 indie film, this earnest, plangent musical adaptation may be delightful; for the unconverted, it's more of a twee chamber affair. Irish singer-songwriter Guy (Steve Kazee) finds inspiration and unconsummated love in Czech immigrant Girl (brilliant Cristin Milioti). They make beautiful music together, but alas, only in the metaphorical sense.—David Cote
