PlayStation Theater

Theater Midtown West
4 out of 5 stars
(5user reviews)

Formerly the Best Buy Theater, this large, corporate club begs for character but finds redemption in its creature comforts. The sound and sight lines are both good, and there’s even edible food. Those who wish to look into a musician’s eyes can stand in the ample front section; foot-weary fans can sit in the cinema-like section in back. It’s a comfortable place to see a well-known band that hasn’t (yet) reached stadium-filling fame.

As somebody who avoids Times Square like the plague, I had very low expectations for the Playstation Theater. I ended up being pleasantly surprised when I went to see Post-Modern Jukebox perform on tour. General admission is just as good (if not better) than the movie theater-esque seating, and it's a great place to see smaller acts up close and personal.  It's not the best music venue in NYC, but it's worth checking out regardless.

Playstation theater, formerly known as Best Buy Theater, is quite alright. Had a couple of shows where I couldn't figure out if a new venue opened, but soon discovered that it took over what was Best Buy. A PSA wouldve been nice. I've been for quite a few shows and haven't been disappointed. It's really spacious, pretty, and has a dangly chandelier which is cool. Lots of room with three balconies so there's ample space to find your spot. Sound is pretty good, a little loud at times though. Staff is generally friendly and I haven't had any problems. Security is efficient in terms of meet n greets and moving things along. Sometimes they make you check bags which is not cool, but it's random so you never know when it could happen so I always carry a light bag. Not sure what criteria they even have to enforce a bag check. but whatever, hasn't happened to me in a while so for now, we cool Playstation. Oh also bathroom is hella fancy with circular sinks and mirrors. I do like using the bathroom at this theater. You could tell mad moolah was dropped to make this place, and I appreciate that.

If a spaceship and a video game had a child it would look like The PlayStation Theater.  Situated below street level in the heart of Times Square (44th and Broadway) it's easy for this location to be invisible to any NYer but try not to dismiss it.  This intimate 3,000 seat space is the perfect venue for stand up comedy and a variety of musical acts.

With blue wavy walls, purple/pink lighting and massive chandeliers, you'll feel like you're in Vegas without ever leaving New York.

I love PlayStation theater. It's a good size with multiple options for seating or standing. The acoustics are pretty solid for all different types of artists/bands. I like coming here on Sunday's to check out Hillsong NYC, but also recommend checking it out the next time your favorite artist or comedian is in town!

The venue is a nice mid-sized theater that hosts a wide variety of bands.  Having changed names over the years from Nokia Theater to Best Buy Theater, to its current incarnation, the basic layout has stayed the same. Enter at street level and take an escalator down a flight. Bars are scattered around the hallways and I believe you can get some snacks too. A large floor in front of the stage and a second area up a set of stairs is all General Admission.  They're also theater-like seats located towards the back of the location, if standing is not your thing.  They're is VIP seating on both sides as well, if you can get them, or bribe the bouncer.   From RuPaul to King Diamond, this place hosts them all.  .
