Time Out says

It all started with a rat.

If you're an avid user of TikTok, than you are probably familiar with The Ratatouille Musical, an entirely fan-created musical based on the film Ratatouille which came together in a very, very DIY manner over the course of 2020.

Some of the early contributions to the production were an a capella love song to the cartoon rat made by TikTok user Em Jaccs on August 10 and a fleshed-out version of the number from user Daniel Mertzlufft which gave the song a full orchestration and some Broadway-ready stage directions. From those humble origins, thousands of other TikTok users joined in on the collaboration, posting set designs, costumes and more for the show. (The official Disney Parks TikTok even acknowledged the project!)

Now, the TikTok phenomenon is becoming a reality! (Kind of!) A concert presentation of the musical is set to stream on January 1 to benefit the Actors Fund as an “unprecedented, community-written, Broadway-caliber, lip-smacking special event.” High-level Broadway performers—including Tituss Burgess as Remy, Andrew Barth Feldman, Ashley Park, Mary Testa, Wayne Brady, Kevin Chamberlin, André De Shields and Priscilla Lopez, plus pop divo Adam Lambert—join TikTok talents for the show.

Tickets to the event range from $5–$50 based on how much you’d like to contribute to the Actors Fund. After the show streams at 7pm, the event will be available to purchase and view on demand for 72 hours.
