La MaMa's Trojan Women Project grew out of a desire to bring Andrei Serban's storied 1974 production of the Euripides refugee tragedy Trojan Women to countries with recent histories of violence, including Guatemala, Cambodia and Kosovo. This devised production stays at home but imagines a trip to one of the farthest reaches of the world. Created collectively by 15 women of the company, the show is adapted from a short story by science fiction master Ursula K. Le Guin that depicts a secret all-female expedition to the South Pole in 1909.
