A proud Theban king goes to pieces after snubbing the Greek god Dionysus and his pack of wild women in Matthew Gasda's adaptation of Euripides' ripping tragedy. Gorilla Rep founder Christopher Carter Sanderson directs a free production staged alfresco at Central Park's Summit Rock, just north of the entrance at 81st Street and Central Park West.

New translation doesn't do this staging justice; overall a rather unimaginative piece that felt much more like a 4th or 5th rehearsal. Overheard one of the actors commenting that they only had 4 rehearsals, which would explain a lot. Only go see if you've got nothing better to do. That said, it was easy to follow which is a feat in and of itself when performing greek tragedy.
