Barras's 1866 spectacle was a five-hour Faustian melodrama with repurposed popular songs and a scandalously costumed French ballet troupe. Director Joshua William Gelb marks its 150th anniversary with an off-kilter metatheatrical adaptation, performed by a cast of eight that includes Steven Rattazzi, Randy Blair and Alaina Ferris.
