The Bushwick Starr
This homey 60-seat black box (up some seriously steep stairs) is a mere block and a half from the subway, and only 15 minutes on the L train from Union Square. The space has become one of the best curated spots in the city; it supports up-and-coming stage talent like William Burke and avant-garde veterans such as Target Margin Theater and Cynthia Hopkins, as well as a variety of performance art and multimedia performances.

Bushwick Starr produces some of the freshest and most exciting theater in the city.

Open hearted, open minded, incredibly inventive, and consistently hugely entertaining!

The shows the put on, the material they pick, the warm welcome, the staff is awesome!

The Starr supports the artist in an incredible way that goes beyond just providing space and money. They have created an artistic home for creativity and that is amazingly awesome!

NYC theater at it's finest, most creative, most cutting edge. If you're wondering what happened to New York, go here and you'll see what's up.

Well...As an "up and coming Theatre artist" this place is indispensable to the growth and nurturing of artists. They also know how to throw a party. Also the walk up isn't that steep. Also...the best theatre programing in the city. That's all.

I've seen almost every play the Bushwick Starr has put on since I moved into the neighborhood eight years ago and they've all been outstanding, original and perspective-changing. This theater is truly a gem.
