The Pillow Book

In this ambitious but dull parallel-lives drama, playwright Anna Moench uses an interesting associative method to link her scenes—the title refers to her inspiration, a medieval poet’s diary—but they are themselves so slight that the slippery structure dissolves entirely, and her poetry isn’t robust enough to linger behind.—Helen Shaw
