Not unlike a certain familiar sitcom, Ted Cubbin’s romantic comedy is set in the physics department of an elite university, and follows the exploits of gifted young scientists and the women who may or may not love them. Bert Rufus (Geoffrey Arend) approaches his longtime crush, coworker Alys (Kristin Villanueva), like an equation to be solved; meanwhile, his office mate struggles in a tempestuous marriage with his affection-starved wife. The cast is uniformly good, and does its best with the material. Unfortunately, the script is not quite funny enough to recommend as a comedy, and not substantial enough to delve meaningfully into romance. The physicists have monologues on things like the unpredictability of subatomic particles, which are presumably metaphors. But "love is unpredictable" is a lesson that requires neither a Ph.D. nor a trip to this show to learn.—Scott Wooledge
