Film starlet Carey Mulligan (An Education) shows her forte for misty-eyed lachrymosity in this stage adapation of the 1961 Ingmar Bergman film, about a woman descending into an unspecified form of insanity. David Leveaux's handsome, well-acted production offers fairly engaging chamber-drama histrionics, but the material was better served on celluloid.—David Cote
