Laurence Holder's bioplay spans decades in the tumultuous life of writer Hurston, employing excerpts from works including her 1935 collection of black folklore, Mules and Men. Woodie King Jr. directs for his New Federal Theatre; Eiizabeth Van Dyke plays Hurston and Joseph Lewis Edward plays all the men in her life, including fellow Harlem Renaissance luminaries Richard Wright and Langston Hughes.
