The Brooklyn Cyclones’ tenth season opens with a nighttime game against the Yankees—the Staten Island Yankees, that is—topped off by 12 minutes of fireworks shot out of left field. The stadium packs a crowd of 7,500 on game days, and it pays to show up early: The first 2,500 fans through the gates get free team T-shirts or jerseys; the memorabilia varies in theme from game to game—including green for Irish heritage and vintage replicas (like the No. 6 jersey of team manager Wally Backman, who played for the Mets in the ’80s).
