Earth Day New York festival

Midtown goes green during the Earth Day New York festival, which takes over Grand Central Terminal and Times Square during the holiday weekend. Among the offerings are indoor and outdoor fairs, which spotlight environmentally friendly organizations, and a campaign to plant virtual trees in Times Square (participants are asked to donate $5 using their cell phones during the event; each contribution represents five trees “planted."
