Time Out says
Harlem Week has stretched into an entire month of events promoting the iconic neighborhood's rich economic, political and cultural history.
The very first Harlem Day—a celebration dedicated to encouragement and fellowship within the historic neighborhood—took place 45 years ago. Since then, the festival has expanded. They added a day or two, then a week, and now there is over one month's worth of activities, even if the proper title remains "Harlem Week." Some of the events include a 5K, an outdoor film festival, a spelling bee, a children's festival, an auto show, Harlem Restaurant Week and the Harlem Jazz & Music Festival. All the best of Harlem is on display for the entire month of August, get up there and experience it.
