Harlem Week 2021

The very first Harlem Day—a celebration dedicated to encouragement and fellowship within the historic neighborhood—took place 47 years ago. Since then, the festival has expanded. They added a day or two, then a week, and now there is 10 of activities, even if the proper title remains "Harlem Week." Don't miss live and virtual performances by Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City Center, the New York Metropolitan Opera and from hit Broadway shows including Tina: The Musical, Ain’t Too Proud, MJ The Musical, Thoughts of Colored Man, Girl from the North Country, Lackawanna Blues, and Moulin Rouge. There will also be dance parties, exhibitors and vendors, health fair and COVID-19 vaccination stations, a salute to the Asian American community, and live performances paying tribute to the late legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Lloyd Price, the Gospel Caravan, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and the Lackawanna Blues Band and the Harlem Music Festival All-Star Band led by Ray Chew. It continues on Saturday, August 14 with "Summer in the City," the New York Road Runners Harlem 5K Run and Family Health Walk honoring Mayor David N. Dinkins, Children’s Festival, Alex Trebek Harlem Children’s Spelling Bee, Free Comic Book Day, a special “Dancing in The Street” dance workshop by Tina, The Musical and Imagenation Film Festival and finish on Sunday, August 15 with "Harlem Day," featuring Sundae Sermon, performances from hit Broadway shows, including a casting call for Ain’t Too Proud, a back-to-school fashion show, and two stages of entertainment and performances. All the best of Harlem is on display for the entire month of August, get there and experience it. Be sure to check the official Harlem Week site for the complete schedule of events.
