The London artist sees himself as part of the "Earthworks" tradition founded by such artists as Michael Heizer and Robert Smithson, but instead of the site-specific transformations of the landscapes, Capper evokes the earthmoving equipment used to make them. This show features seemingly abstract welded-steel forms that are actually based on the tines and teeth found on the business end of backhoes and bulldozers. Additional watercolors of spidery excavation machinery add a surreal touch.
