Kadampa Meditation Center

An eight-foot golden statue of the Buddha glows in the center of the meditation room at Kadampa Meditation Center, a serene space in Chelsea. Originally founded in 1994 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the studio was first located in a graffiti-covered dance studio, two blocks away from its present home, which opened in 2012. Besides daily meditation classes (it only costs $4 for a spot at lunchtime), the center offers a variety of retreats and courses with such promising titles as "How to Have a Wonderful Life," plus a Sunday session for children called "Dharma for Kids."

A place where anyone can find peace. A beautiful atrium, massive modern Buddhist Shrine, classes accessible for new and experienced meditators, and a beautiful sense of community. Many like-minded, accepting, but still diverse New Yorkers make this place extraordinarily special. All sorts of teachers, too so someone can find who conveys the ideas in a way that work for them.

I have been attending classes for 5 months and i can testify that these center and its resident teacher Morten have transformed my life for the better.

I was in constant battle with severe depression and anxiety before attending even getting treatment by psychologists and psychiatrists with little improvement.

Now i wake up and most of my days are super possitive and happy.

Morten knows how to teach with a great sense of humor ,love and clarity.

These lineage of Buddhism is so practical for us Westerners .

We practice Mahayana Buddhism

Stop suffering and change you're life by gaining wisdom .

love love love!!!

Such a comfortable place to explore meditation and Buddhism.  I was nervous to try meditation, and didn't know much about Buddhism, but it was all easy to follow and understand.  Everything was very practical too, not a lot of intellectual blah blah blah, or all airy-fairy. It was about how to not freak out at work, how to keep it together when the train is stuck on the tack for 10 minutes, how to be more patient with my sweetie.  I met nice people who seemed more relaxed than I was (a good sign) and took home a book that was immensely helpful. I keep going back because I always get something helpful from going, and I am definitely becoming happier and more relaxed.

Two years ago, I went to check out one meditation class, just to relax. I never imagined how it would change my life forever!

This place is truly an oasis of peace in the city. Kadam Morten has the uncanny ability to teach the most profound topics in such a way that we can immediately apply them to our daily life and in that way transform ourselves and our world. All of the.teachers bring a love of the Dharma & their.personal.experience with such clarity, warmth & joy. It is accessible to Buddhists and non Buddhists, beginners and advanced practitioners. I highly recommend a visit to anyone looking to increase their peace & happiness -in other words - to everyone!

A beautiful city temple where everyone is welcome. The teachings are clear, and easy to apply to our daily life. The community is warm and welcoming. The teachers are always available for questions and offer support to anyone who is curious. For those interested in meditation at any level, this is the place to visit in NYC.

This is an amazing little oasis of peace. I was the least likely person to learn to meditate, but now I can! This is the place for anyone who wants less stress, and more calm.
