As if 90-degree temperatures weren't hot enough, Macy's promised to "Ignite the Night" with its Fourth of July fireworks. More than 40,000 sparklers exploded into red, white and blue constellations, with interlocking hearts and even a few smiley faces for good measure. Prior to the evening display, mascots of important American figures and a marching band of red-coated musicians (not the British) paraded through Hudson River Park. Afterward, servicemen, tourists and flag-waving New Yorkers lingered in the residual smoke.
