Time Out says

In the 1920s, the Chinese game of mah-jongg was adopted into American Jewish culture (see also Chinese food on Christmas). A 2010–11 exhibit on the topic, “Project Mah-Jongg,” was one of the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s most popular shows, and inspired the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s annual Mah-Jongg Marathon. Kibitz while you kong, pong and chow; all proceeds benefit the museum.
