Quaytman doesn't see her silkscreen paintings as singular compositions, but as parts of an overall scheme detailing the arc of her career—a "book in which each successive show is a chapter," as she describes her process. Her current show revolves around a commission for a botanical garden in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, a project she's been researching for the past two years. The pieces here represent the fruits of her labors, an out-of-town tryout of sorts: Once the exhibition comes down, the works will be permanently installed in their intended home within a pavilion designed by architect Solveig Fernlund.
