As the setting for tunes like “Positively 4th Street” and “I’m Waiting for the Man,” New York’s streets are perhaps the most soliloquized in history. Navigate the pavement on this trek led by music historian Bobby Pinn—who has worked with artists like the Smashing Pumpkins, the Ramones and Nirvana—to learn which stoops and alleyways have been haunted by notable rockers. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the tour visits the East Village hangouts of former regulars such as Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground. On Sundays, it heads to Greenwich Village where Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and others got their starts.
