Live music. BBQ. Hanging out on a beach. This almost sounds too good to be true. Surprisingly, it isn’t. It’s actually the Second Annual Fourth of July Beach Party at Coney Island. After you’ve seen Joey Chestnut (hopefully) devour 70 hot dogs, amble over to Surf Avenue, where you’ll join a party that has been going on since the early mornin’, just like all the good parties in all the good rap songs. This free event is open to people of all ages and walks of life: You are almost guaranteed to make some new friends if you just so happen to run out of hot dog buns. (Seriously, why do they sell buns in packets of eight and sell hot dogs in packets of ten?) Remember to have fun, stay hydrated (beer isn’t water!) and apply sunscreen.
