Time Out says

This show’s title comes from a note painter Jasper Johns wrote to himself in which he laid out his artistic credo: “Take an object / Do something to it / Do something else to it.” By object, he meant the quotidian kind, incorporated wholesale along with other unorthodox material into his art—an approach shared here in pieces dating from the ’50s to the ’70s by a selection of artists that includes Niki de Saint Phalle, Betye Saar and Katsuhiro Yamaguchi, along with Johns.
