The clocks are about to get set back and we’re leaving our offices after the sun has set. It’s official—winter is nigh, and so are the holidays.

Located on Brooklyn’s waterfront in Sunset Park, Industry City is its own community, a “city within a city” made up of 16 buildings over 35 acres of industrial space housing creative experiences and eateries. And they’re going all out for the winter season, decking the halls and putting on an impressive light experience featuring works by well-known artists. (They even have an art tour map for your convenience.)

There’s a lot to take in at Industry City. Here’s what’s happening on campus this winter.

IC Ice Rink and weekly rink nights

Officially opening for the season on November 18, the Industry City Ice Rink will be operating on the weekends, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Fridays, and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Located in Courtyards 5/6, the Ice Rink will also be decorated with festive winter décor and twinkling lights. No gear, no problem—skates, skate aides and helmets are all available to rent.

Weekly Family Skate Night kicks off on December 1, running from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursdays, with tickets priced at $20 per child (this includes admission and skate rental). Guests will ice skate with rink staff dressed in wintertime costumes like snowmen, elves and fairies, and partake in games (think freeze skate) while listening to a themed kids playlist.

Don’t worry, Industry City is putting on themed nights for adults this winter season. Behold, the Under the Stars Skate Series, in which the rink will be featuring holiday-themed cocktails and a dope playlist. Tickets are $20 per person, and include admission, skates and billiard room access; pay an extra $10 for a drink token at Brewers and Distillers, IC’s home to beer, spirits and sake, all produced on site.

Like most skate rinks in New York, the Ice Rink at IC, too, is uncovered—so dress appropriately.

Holiday shopping

There are a slew of shops located throughout the IC campus perfect for gifting, many of which are home to artisan-made products ranging from Li-Lac Chocolates (New York’s oldest chocolatier founded in 1923) and Ashya (contemporary leather accessories), to blacksmith store Nazz Forge and Soil to Studio, a textile design and natural dye studio. (Helloooo, stocking stuffers.)

Industry City also boasts its own Brooklyn Design District, featuring outlets and vintage stores, as well as all things interior decorating. You’ll find heavy hitters like ABC Carpet + Home Outlet, Imports from Marrakesh, RH Outlet and West Elm Outlet campus-wide.

Those who want small batch and handmade items should make their way to The Makers Guild at Industry City, a blend of design studio and retail. Here you’ll watch the process live, which includes tattooing at Pigtown Atelier, baked goods and desserts (Tadaima), and pottery and sculpture at Micol Ceramics.

And coming soon for the holiday season, you’ll find Makers Markets in Industry City’s event space, where you’ll find goods from small business owners and local brands from Brooklyn. Keep up to date with Industry City's events and happenings via their calendar.

Activities and events on campus

IC’s campus is also home to several activities for all to enjoy, including Petanque by Carreau Club, NYC’s first pétanque court (the indoor space opens this week!); a lingerie workshop thanks to Rue du Paradis; and jewelry design at Saskia.

Industry City also hosts weekly live music events, including Latin on Friday nights and rotating bands of different genres at the Standard Wormwood on Saturdays and Sundays. Bonus: they’re free.

In partnership with Rooftop Films, IC will also host their Winter Family Movie series featuring all those cold weather favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Frozen. (Hands-on activities and hot chocolate will most certainly be involved.)

Your Industry City eating & drinking guide

From IC's Food Hall to sit-down dining options, Industry City visitors will eat and drink to their hearts’ content with the wealth of offerings available on campus. You want burgers? You got it—head to the Burger Joint, and while you’re at it, grab a cocktail at the speakeasy. Avo-toast? That can be had at Avocaderia, the self-proclaimed first avocado toast eatery to open in the five boroughs. IC also has a Japanese food hall and market nestled in Building 4. From German Döner kebabs to vegan cuisine, there’s something for every taste.

A range of drinks, too, can be had across campus including coffee at Brooklyn Roasting Company, booze and bites at the Frying Pan, and sake at Brooklyn Kura, the city’s first sake brewery, located within IC’s Brewers + Distillers.
