New York is best explored by foot, but two-legged travel is a dicey proposition this time of year. Which is why the Museum at Eldridge Street starts off this tour with steaming cider and rugalach, a traditional Jewish pastry. Thus fortified against the elements, follow museum staff on a 90-minute stroll around the Lower East Side, stopping at historic spots like Jarmulowsky’s Bank, the Forward Newspaper Building and Loew’s Canal Street Movie Theater. Along the way, you’ll nosh at local snack purveyors including Kossar’s Bialys, the Sweet Life and the Pickle Guys. Reservations requried.
