13 ways San Franciscans celebrate Halloween

The City by the Bay is famous for doing just about everything in our own quirky way. Celebrating Halloween is no different. In a town that loves the silly, the spooky, and the spectacular, we observe All Hallows Eve like only San Franciscans would.

1. Turning organic decorative pumpkins into kombucha.

2. Pretending no one's home when the very rare trick-or-treater comes to the door.

3. Trying to perfect the nearly-impossible Golden Gate Bridge costume once and for all.

4. Lamenting how good Halloween used to be in the Castro. (The City used to shut down the streets but then someone got shot. Bummer on multiple counts.)

5. Dragging little kids to Presidio Terrace and St. Francis Woods just for the full-size trick-or-treat candy haul.

6. Posting adorably embarrassing childhood Halloween pics to every social media account ever.

7. Heading to the haunted Toys 'R Us in Redwood City (and one of the seven most haunted places in San Francisco.)

8. Running through a jam-packed Costumes on Haight looking for a last minute costume idea.

9. Swinging by every store on Mission Street for the free candy bowls.

10. Crossing bridges and tunnels to pass out block-party candy with married moms and dads in the 'burbs

11. Stocking up on the Spirit Store's 1/2 Off Everything sale because San Franciscans need costume supplies year-round.

12. Making a mental note to visit that adorable Half Moon Bay (the pumpkin patch capital of the Bay Area!) more often.

13. Wearing t-shirts, shorts and sunglasses through it all because it's almost November and there's not a cloud in the sky.
