Experience the debut of 47 Days, Sound-less by Vietnamese artist Nguyễn Trinh Thi at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). In this unique presentation, Nguyễn combines natural landscapes, movie soundtracks, and visuals from Southeast Asia to challenge the way we consume films. Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin's novels, the artwork features reconstructed images of nature and captivating soundscapes. Mirrors at the centre reflect footage onto surrounding walls, offering new ways to explore the connection between a place and its inhabitants.
Nguyễn highlights the interconnectedness of nature, celebrating the human condition and indigenous cultures, particularly the ones in Vietnam. This 'expanded cinema' encourages viewers to rethink our presence in the natural world and challenge the conventional ways of seeing.
