Singapore's coolest street art event returns to Aliwal Arts Centre on January 19. Check out its exciting range of programmes that champions urban art and youth subcultures.
The sixth edition of Aliwal Urban Art Festival gives you an insider's look at street art and culture in Singapore. Watch graffiti come to life at AliwalStreet and don't miss two exhibitions – Art In The Streets and A Sign Of Times – while you're at it. The latter is a showcase featuring the reinterpretation of metal street signs by over 30 artists from Singapore's urban creative community. The exhibition also celebrates the spirit of rebellion, a streak that gave rise to street culture.
Pick up a new skill by trying your hands on silversmithing, drone flying, skateboarding and more. Alternatively, you can discover local independent artists and pick up some of their merch including fashion pieces and handcrafted knick-knacks to bring home. There are also food vendors available to satiate those hunger pangs.
And what's a party without some music? Get down to disco with a series of live music showcases featuring independent bands across a spectrum of genres such as R&B, math rock, folk-pop, hip-hop and more. The spotlight also shines on performances by the local hip-hop dance community, as well as a dance battle that you can audition for.
Come as you are and celebrate all things street at the Aliwal Urban Art Festival. For more information, visit aliwalartscentre.sg
