For this year's LeVel33 Oktoberfest celebrations, brewmaster Gabriel Garcia has created Festbier ($9.88-$18.33), taking inspiration from traditional recipes to try to recreate the smooth and medium-bodied beer brewed at the 1810 wedding celebration of Ludwig I, then the crown prince of Bavaria.
Another brew that Garcia created that also takes inspiration from the pages of history is the pumpkin ale. Only available from November, this beer references conditions of 17th century America when malt was scarce and brewers at the time such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin relied on an abundant supply of pumpkins for the starch and sugar to make their beers.
