With a prime spot in the party-loving precinct of Clarke Quay, Señor Taco is where every night feels like a Friday fiesta. First opened in 2009 and now back with a fresh facelift, this much-loved taqueria serves up the bold, addictive flavours of Mexico – street eats, margaritas, music and all.
The vibe
This is not a place for wallflowers. With its alfresco buzz and technicolour glow, Señor Taco brings the heat even before the salsa lessons start. Tuck into tacos with a view of the main fountain outside, then follow the music indoors – by sundown, it’s all swaying hips, spinning heels and a full-blown salsa soiree, complete with live performances by Latin bands and DJs.
The food
Tacos are the main event, and they don’t mess about. The one-metre taco sampler ($74.80) comes loaded with two tenderloin beef, two baja fish, two grilled chicken, one al pastor pork and one pork chicharron – great for sharing. Other must-try specials include the 48-hour slow-cooked lamb birria ($23), and the hearty torta de milanesa ($26). Extra napkins are advised.
The drink
Here, you’ll find Singapore’s first mezcal library, boasting over 200 labels and small-batch hand-crafted agave cocktails. Enjoy your margaritas flavoured ($23), spicy ($23) or even frozen ($22). There’s also ice-cold Mexican beer (from $19), plus draft beer by Singapore’s very own Brewlander (from $21). Happy hour runs from 5pm to 8.30pm, where frozen cocktails set you back $19 a pop.
Time Out tip
Tuesday is bachata night, so bring your best moves. Salsa, kizomba and afrobeats also make an appearance throughout the week – all fuelled by tacos and tequila, naturally.
