Here’s how to design your own t-shirt

Say no to boring tees that stifle your imagination and personality. Why grab an off-the-rack piece – and run the risk of stumbling across someone with the same shirt – when you can create your own? Customisation is cool, thanks to the brains behind Uniqlo’s new UTme! mobile app. Start by experimenting with methods like paint tools and typography – or tweak your own photos – then choose from visual effects such as ink splashes, fragmented images and mosaic patterns. Only white tees are available, so you can make your patterns as bright and colourful as you want. When you’ve perfected the design, save it and head to the UTme! Counter, where the final product will be ready for collection after a quick ten-minute print job.

But if your creative juices are running low, pick up a tee or two from the Uniqlo Street Tales line. Launched for SG50 – six more months and you can banish that term from memory – the shirts feature Singapore-inspired graphics by local companies, organisations and personalities, with locally-tinged elements of mama shops, tikam machines, curry puffs and ice kachang. Charming, quirky, cheesy – they’ve got it all.
