The Foodist wants to make your desk lunch better

Another week, another CBD lunch delivery service comes along to try and improve your desk lunch. Unlike those who have come and gone before them – Feedex and Lunchbox have recently shuttered – The Foodist hopes to sustain interest with its weekly lunchboxes prepared by local restaurants.

Set up by husband-and-wife team, Ng Dirong and Ivy Ang, the service rolls out lunch sets every weekday for pick-up at three points across the CBD: Asia Square, Capitol Towers and the Marina Bay Financial Centre. It's not salad you're getting, though, and there's no promise you'll save calories – or the Earth – at your desk. So far, Ng and Ang have inked contracts with Morsels, Nude Seafood and The Quarters to serve up meals in boxes. Additional establishments will be announced every week.

Your $15 to $25 tasting box could include a starter, main course and dessert, while the smaller snack box ($5-$15) packs small portions to introduce you to their fare. And here's where the deal gets pretty sweet: a Foodist bus service will also take you to the restaurant for lunch or dinner if you like what you’ve tasted.

'The idea of rolling out The Foodist bus is so there's that additional incentive for customers to go out and try a new restaurant,' explains Ng. The restaurants, in turn, will try to offer additional perks to diners who use The Foodist’s bus, like a meet-the-chef session or a special set dinner.

The Foodist service only launches on May 4, but pre-orders for Morsels' box ($22) – it includes a starter of house-smoked swordfish, Firecracker-style pulled Duroc pork with conchiglie pasta and habanero pesto, and the signature Milo Tira-miso – can be made on www.thefoodist.com.sg. Lunch at the desk shouldn't feel like punishment. Treat yo' self.
