Try this: the chilli crab at… Jamie’s Italian

If you’re looking for a dish that tastes like the kind you’ll get from Jumbo, stop reading now. Because the chilli crab from Jamie’s Italian is a far lighter and refined beast. (Don’t get us wrong – we still love the original.)

For this National Day special ($58), Sri Lankan chilli crab is stewed in a spicy chilli sauce, made in-house with chillies, white wine vinegar, tomato purée, lemongrass and coriander. Oh, and olive oil. The sauce isn't as eggy as local renditions of the dish, which explains its tartness and thinner consistency – you won't have a problem licking the plate clean for lunch. And to up the Italy-meets-Singapore ante, slices of warm chilli focaccia replace the typical fried mantou buns.

So if you’d like a touch of local fare with your pastas and pizzas, hit up either Jamie’s Italian outlet until August 14.

Jamie’s Chilli Crab is available at Jamie’s Italian (VivoCity) and Jamie’s Italian (Forum) until August 14.
