For its Spring/Summer 2016 collection, Uniqlo teams up with French model and fashion designer Ines de la Fressange to release contemporary wardrobe basics that channel the vibe of Brideshead Revisited crossed with Taylor Swift’s 'Wildest Dreams'. That’s the kind of apparel you can expect from the marriage of the Parisian style icon and the Japanese retailer.

With a neutral palette of olive, beige, indigo and rose, the pieces are easy to style into an elegant everyday look. Everyone needs good-looking basics, but for creative dressers who want to upgrade from the stubborn normcore trend that just won't go away, layer up on the same colour with varied textures. Create a subtle yet interesting outfit that works both off-duty and on-the-job – try mixing and matching with the range of trousers, jackets, button-up shirts, tank tops and skirts.

Those after a feminine look can create a sleeker silhouette by tying a belt around the pretty cardigans, jumpers and blazers to nip in the waist. Even sporty items like the cricket sweaters work well with a little extra styling, so don't be afraid to cross genres and take it from lawn party to preppy lunch date with delicate jewellery and a clutch.

Since 'effortless chic' is the allure of French women, take a cue from Ines' personal style and pair the timeless white shirt with the chino ankle length pants, then throw on a statement accessory. Perfect if you've got a hot date right after work. Andrea Cheong

Available at Uniqlo Suntec City and www.uniqlo.com/sg from Jan 8. Prices range from $29-90-$169.90.
