Singapore has a handful of ‘Irish’ pubs already, but The Toucan ranks alongside Muddy Murphy’s as one of the best (its location in the somewhat seedy Duxton Hill notwithstanding). The look of an archetypal old-school boozer is ably re-created indoors, complete with a cosy lounge area, big-screen TV and pool table. Outdoors, though, is the real draw: here’s a proper pub garden dotted with ample bench seating, plus the occasional barrel, wooden barrow and wishing well. It all sounds terribly tacky but, remarkably, it works. And on a warm Singapore evening – is there any other type? – a pint of Guinness ($11) here is exactly what a thirsty, mildly homesick expat hankers for.
Drinks $9-$35.
