Expressions of Kathak

This Indian classical dance form is known for its expressive form, complex footwork and spins, and has both Hindu and Islamic influences. Ponnamma Devaiah performs a series of pieces of the Jaipur and Lucknow gharanas (schools), which are similar to the Spanish flamenco in terms of the percussive footwork, dependence on time-cycles and the lack of deviation from the vertical axis.
