Winter is coming closer than you think. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones hits the screen same time as the U.S. on April 15 at 9am, with same day encore at 10pm, on HBO Go and HBO. Fans around the world have gone in too deep in analysing the world of Westeros, deciphering the clues that dot the Seven Kingdoms, and figuring out who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. And since the show has surpassed George R. R. Martin's book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, anything is possible. Whether you’re a fan of the hit HBO TV series, the books or simply know nothing (see what we did there), here are the best fan theories we swear by.

The Night King is backed by an army of undead Starks

A Reddit user’s eagle eyes caught the army of wights and White Walkers forming the profile of a wolf which is the sigil of House Stark in the latest set of promos. What if the Night King somehow manages to reanimate dead Starks? Plus, the rise of Catelyn Stark would make a great reference to the books’ Lady Stoneheart (the undead version of Catelyn).

Another theory is that Bran is the Night King as he keeps going back in time to stop the Night King but gets stuck inside him instead. There’s also a teaser where Arya runs in fear from the crypts – could this be due to the discovery that her dead family have turned into undead wights?

Jaime is going to kill Cersei

If you’re familiar with Maggy the Frog’s predictions, you’ll know her prophecy of the valonqar (High Valyrian for ‘little brother’) where Cersei will die in the hands of her brother. Cersei’s assumption is that Tyrion is the said valonqar. However, despite being twins, Jaime was born mere minutes after Cersei. We last saw Jaime leaving a pregnant Cersei on bad terms, riding northward, so if they were to meet again, don’t bet on the fact that it’ll be a sweet reunion.

Jon wins the Game of Thrones and is the Azor Ahai

Pay attention to the statues at the crypts of Winterfell in this season eight teaser. We see Catelyn and Ned Stark as they were – age-wise – when they died. The camera then pans to Arya and Sansa’s statues which relatively look like their current selves. However, when it comes to Jon’s, his looks slightly different – one of a much older version of him. Is this a foreshadowing? Could Jon be the Azor Ahai, the Prince Who Was Promised?

The confirmation of R+L=J

Based on the books, most in Westeros believed that Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped Lyanna Stark, resulting in Robert’s Rebellion. In the seventh season, Samwell Tarly (thanks to Gilly) discovers that Rhaegar and Lyanna had wed before the birth of Jon, making him a legitimate highborn lord named Aegon Targaryen and the true heir to the Iron Throne. This makes total sense for George R. R. Martin’s books’ title A Song of Ice (Stark) and Fire (Targaryen). But if Jon gets together with Daenarys as per the final episode of season seven, does this mean that Dany becomes queen through Jon or through the Mad King’s lineage? Are they the song of ice and fire? Also, does this mean Dany is Jon’s aunt?

Tyrion Lannister is actually a Targaryen

What if we tell you that Jon might not be the only secret Targaryen? The sigil of House Targaryen is a three-headed dragon which symbolises Aegon the Conquerer and his two sisters Visenya and Rhaenys whom he conquered Westeros and unite the realms with. The three heads could also symbolise their three dragons – Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes. But as of now, it’s said to believe that Tyrion is also one of the prophesied heads of the three-headed dragon besides Danaerys and Jon. Tywin Lannister’s last words to Tyrion before his death on the "throne" in season four are “You’re no son of mine.” And with his hate for Tyrion, it raises the question: is Tyrion really a Lannister? What if the Mad King had an affair with Tywin’s wife Joanna while he was Hand of the King, resulting in Tyrion?

Jaime is going to kill the Night King

This is nothing less than a poetic theory about redemption. Jaime earned the nickname Kingslayer due to his betrayal to the Mad King (aka the Fire King) whom he killed. We last saw Jaime heading northward for the Night King (aka the Ice King), so what if he’s up to put an endgame to the Night King and his posse? After all he has Joffrey’s Widow’s Wail, a Valyrian steel sword, and the technical skills of the giant arrow launcher that Cersei had built to kill Danaerys’ dragons. These bad boys aren’t just tools to kill anyone – they’re magic, so it’s sayonara for the Night King, the White Walkers and the Ice Dragon. And since Jaime has once killed a fire king, who’s to say he won’t kill an ice king?

The White Walkers are actually the good guys

They say there’s always two sides to every story, right? Hear us out when we say that perhaps the White Walkers ain’t all bad. The White Walkers were created by the Children of the Forest to defend themselves when Westeros was invaded by the First Man. After the War of Dawn with the Children of the Forest, the White Walkers retreated to the Lands of Always Winter in hiding. Now that their true existence are known, men are raging war against them and perhaps their retaliation is a means to survive. Another theory, is that they’re heading south to kill Cersei. And if that’s the case, happy days.

The Cleganebowl is going to happen – for real

Drum roll, please – it’s the epic showdown we’ve all been waiting for. Back to season seven face-off, we see The Hound telling The Mountain, “Remember me? Yeah, you do. You’re even f- uglier than I am now. What did they do to you? It doesn’t matter. That’s not how it ends for you, brother. You know who’s coming for you. You’ve always known.” A little backstory: The Mountain scorched the side of The Hound’s face when they were kids because he discovered his little brother playing with his toys. Just putting this out there, we’ve got out bets set on The Hound.
