Cambodian Son focuses on Cambodian poet Kosal Khiev, on his deportation from the US, after being invited to represent the Kingdom of Cambodia at the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. He journeys through his performances and his newfound fame before finally being forced to face the central issue in his life: “How do you survive when you belong nowhere?”. This is not only Khiev's story, but also a story of the broken immigration system in the US and Cambodia's struggle to rebuild itself after decades of conflict.
